I refuse to say the fact it was SA is a spoiler. Itâs in front of our faces from almost the very beginning that the FMC was SAed in some way and that everyone in her life acted cruelly.

I donât really know what made me pick up wait for you by Jennifer L. Armentrout (writing as J. Lynn). To be honest, I received four of the books in this series a couple of years ago but since this wasnât a genre that interested me, I didnât bother reading it.
Letâs just say that I am kicking myself because I didnât read these books. I donât even KNOW WHY I picked it up and whatever fairy impelled me to pick it up, THANK YOU SO MUCH BECAUSE THIS BOOK BROKE ME! In a good way, of course!
I was bawling my eyes out a couple of nights I listened to the audio and if I didnât have work the next day, I would have finished listening to it all night!
This Slow-Burn Romance Worked!
I am not a fan of slow-burn romance but Wait for You was PERFECT as a slow-burn romance. I immediately knew something was wrong with Avery, the heroine and I liked that the full story wasnât immediately revealed in the first few chapters. In fact, we find out the full story when she confesses to Cam what really happened to her. And it tore at my heartstrings even more.
The Angst
Angsty romance is something that I donât usually like but I could not help but fall in love with Avery. Wait for You is told in Averyâs POV and I immediately connected with her. Her inner monologues and off-putting attitude again tugged at my heartstrings (which explains all the tears I shed for her).
Angsty romance just reminds me of myself in college so this book also felt very nostalgic.
Cam is the MAN!
Cameron Hamilton is another type of hero. He is the typical popular, hot guy who always got the girl, until Avery. His persistence was pretty damn amazing because it took him MONTHS to get Avery to go out with him on a real date. Plus, Averyâs emotional baggage was just too over the top that I didnât think Cam would keep coming back. Not that I blame Avery because she DOES have a LEGIT reason to be wary.
Trigger Warnings
There are three trigger warnings here and Jennifer Armentrout doesnât shy away from reality. I love how she handled Averyâs situation and I love how she handled Camâs.
But as a warning, there is rape, attempted suicide, and physical abuse mentioned here, but not in graphic detail.
This book made me wish for the dual POV
Wait for You is told in Averyâs POV only, I kept wishing that I could read Camâs POV because I wanted to know what he was thinking! I wanted to know why he kept coming back and asking Avery out!
Then Trust in Me came along and I was SOLD.
The Audiobook
Sophie Eastlake narrates Wait for You and she is amazing! I love the vulnerability in her voice when she is speaking as Avery and I also like her male voice. They are deep but do not sound weird to my ears.
It is masterfully narrated and I am happy that Sophie Eastlake is narrating the other books in the series.
