Kinda gory....but I loved the mystery, read the whole thing in an afternoon. Her and the love interest bicker all the time and are very sweet. I was completely shocked by who the killer ended up being, and the ending caught me completely off guard.

This was a fast and fun read in a sensational sort of way. It was fun to have the real life details of Jack the Ripper’s crimes in the story. It’s clear Maniscalco is well-read, or at least well-watched, because there’s multiple Sherlock Holmes references, including a borrowed police dog named Toby. At times these allusions felt too much like fan-fiction to me, but for a short, simple novella-style book I didn’t mind terribly.

- Devastating twist that the brother was Jack the Ripper

- Very unexpected twist; strong ending with the reveal
- Great intro to Audrey Rose as strong FMC
- Loved the banter between Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell
- Strong premise of her being a science/medical student as a female in the 1880s
