This book was such a struggle. The overuse of adjectives (both real and made-up) was tedious and seeing them so often actually made me feel annoyed instead of amused. I didn't buy the relationship aspect at all and felt that the author relied too much upon telling and not showing Cress and Kate falling for each other. Last but certainly not least (because I refuse to write a whole diatribe), the culmination of the story was kind of ridiculous, and I don't mean amusing. My reading app tells me that I took 7 hours and 32 minutes to read this book. I can honestly say that I would like that 7 hours and 32 minutes back.

This was a cute fairy story that was a mix of “The Cruel Prince” and “My Roommate is a Vampire” while also feeling a little unedited and immature. Read this if you’re looking for low stakes and don’t mind plot holes! It was a very cozy read.
