Good book, but hard to read. One of those books that I'm glad I read, but will never read again. Not recommended for war veterans or those who have been experienced life in a war zone. A very honest and accurate depiction of the Iraq War and risks retraumatizing those who experienced war.

The US military is too depressing for me even when written about with nuance. Also the main character was whiney and blamed all of his bad decisions and misfortune on his girlfriend. He could have simply moved with her he did NOT have to join the army ..

Raw, emotional, and dramatic this book is an intense look at the ramifications of addiction on one's life, and how often we end up victims of our own design. From the opening of the book, the narrator is never meant to be loveable or sympathetic, but rather a raw look at addiction through the eyes of a clueless, entitled kid.

Not really sure how I felt about this book, but I can’t stop thinking about the line:
“Days came like dead moths on the bathroom counter.”
Will probably reread eventually.
