(revisiting as an audiobook in 2015. still found it very enjoyable.)

I really enjoyed this second book of the Liveship trilogy. Hobb crafts a good story, with diverse and interesting characters and an intricate world full of magic and mystery. Some of the plot line from the first book are resolved in The Mad Ship, but more questions arose as the story went on.

I look forward to reading the last book in the series, but I will have to wait awhile, as these 800+ page books have a way of unbalancing the rest of my life. Time to read some nonfiction for a change.

The characters I got to know and love in the first book really shined in this one. The characters that I disliked started changing and joining those that I liked.

Again, Althea and Brashen remain my OTP. My heart was aching watching them in this book. I hope all will be right in the end.

Finding out the secret behind the liveships and the Rain Wilds was the icing on the cake and now I wish to see it all come full circle in the last book.

A great continuation of the story. All the character develop in interesting logical and sometimes unepected ways. I thoroughly enjoyed all their journeys. The first half of the book felt a bit unstructured. Even if all chapters had interesting developments or lore hidden in them it didn't push the story forward that much. That is the only reason I don't give the book full ratings. Everything else was great.

This book is 900 pages long or 34 hours on audio (which is the way I absorbed it). it has taken me a month to six weeks to get through it and sometimes it needed a rocket up its ass to get it moving. Nevertheless I did enjoy it and now on to the final book in the trilogy and then it will be almost September!
