An original voice in classical Russian literature, distinctive in that it is full of hope, yearning, and sometimes even positivity without delving into the core-depths of the human soul. Ironically that last part is both a blessing and a fault. Specifically for this collection if anyone can explain the meaning of "Here comes a Dog!" I will be beyond grateful. I even tried looking it up in old literary journals but I could not find anything. In general I would say that the section on Stories Of Love and Parting was the best particularly "On the Island". The good outweighs the bad, but there are definitely some stinkers as well.
