Sandra just wants to go home, to escape her controlling husband, and to be wrapped in the support of her parents. Well, when she arrives home, she gets no help from her mother who is dealing with a husband with dementia. They are getting ready to sell their house and move to Florida. Sandra finds out pretty quickly that she has to figure it out all by herself.

She sinks pretty low before she lands at her aunt's house where she has been asked to take care of the property and the dog. She can't even do that very well. And then there is always that crazy husband to worry about. Will he find her or not? She can't let her guard down for even a minute.

I enjoyed The Happiness in Between and loved the complexity of the characters as they tried to figure out their lives. I especially loved the young neighbor boy, Aaron. He is such a wise, responsible little man.

I loved getting lost in Sandra's world for a bit and I look forward to reading more books by Grace Greene. She is a new-to-me author but she's one I will be watching now.

Characters

This could have been an amazing book. The plot is strong and interesting, but the characters aren't fleshed out enough for the reader to be invested in them.
A little more background on the characters, especially Sandra and Colton, would help with that.
The other thing that bothered me wa the fact that Sandra is way to whiny. She has had a hard road, but I wish she found her strength earlier in the book.
All in all it was a good book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

This book was so hard to put down. I stayed up way past my bedtime because I had to know what happened next.

Full of suspense, family relationships, psychological thrills, character development, and cute dogs, The Happiness in Between is a rollercoaster ride of a book that I highly recommend!

I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for an open and honest review.
This is the first book that I have read by [author:Grace Greene|4704348] and I feel like I'm off to sweet and cozy start with [book:The Happiness In Between: A Novel|31703100]. Sandra's story started off differently than any other book I've read in similarly written romance novels. That said, this book is so much more than a romance novel. I had a hard time relating to Sandra and her decisions made prior to the beginning of the novel where she married her college boyfriend, Trent, leaving behind her college education simply to support him in his career. She then divorces Trent only to remarry him just as quickly. This aspect of Sandra's personality made it difficult for me to relate to her until I was about a third of the way through the book when I became more familiar with the other characters in the novel, especially Colton. Sandra is a lot like a "real" person because she is flawed and, for me, that made her more likeable, in the long run. I don't want to give away too much of the novel but it has a sweet and happy ending, which, let's face it, sometimes in life that is exactly what you need. Suffice to say this book is filled with sweetness and a bit of fun and laughter. It isn't filled with perfect people and it isn't the perfect book but how boring would life, real or fictionalized, be if everyone and everything was perfect? I enjoyed [book:The Happiness In Between: A Novel|31703100] by [author:Grace Greene|4704348] and look forward to reading more books by Ms. Greene in the future.
