Yeah this was as brutal as the reviews say. I'm not sure how to rank it. I liked it, yes, but I can't rank it highly because I didn't enjoy it.
I am glad that most of the characters who needed to get comeuppance got comeuppance! I was worried that they wouldn't. But yeah this was pretty crazy and definitely won't be beaten for a while.

It truly was the most disturbing book I’ve ever read. Had to finish it in one day because I couldn’t bear to be thinking about this story any longer. Every type of abuse possible is inflicted on a young innocent girl by an adult in custody of her and the neighborhood kids. Based on a true story that was apparently even darker and more graphic than this author was willing to write. Truly the evil of humanity. I really struggled with rating this one and am in a very weird funk now.

A horrifically devastating story depicting the depths of human depravity and the inevitable barbarity of hive mind, the dehumanization of women, and the innocence of children.
The writing is beautiful, but the story is bleak, painful, and deeply disturbing.
Very reminiscent of the 1965 murder of Sylvia Likens. Going into this book with the knowledge that this portrays reality, and not some far off, fantasy society made this an incredibly haunting and bone-chilling read. Humans are monsters when put in the right environment.

Graphic: Body horror, Child abuse, Child death, Confinement, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Torture, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Alcoholism, Animal cruelty, Emotional abuse, Incest, Death of parent, and Fire/Fire injury

It’s hard for me to rate this book. It was good but the experience of reading it was horrible. I wouldn’t recommend this to everyone, but I “enjoyed” it, even tho that feels wrong to say
