So much contrivance to stretch out the story. Everything centres on one night. But we're not really going to know what happened on that night (to keep the suspense). People behave in strange ways that are designed to make you wonder whether they are responsible for the really big event. But of course it's generally just a plot twist and nothing more.

Sienna and Abby don't really know each other all that well, and for most of the book don't like each other very much, but it's periodically suggested that they are "best friends", which is a stretch too. The whole husband swap could have been a quite interesting concept if the story even focused on a small part of that night, but instead it's filled with 'you know what happened...' and 'I've got to tell...'. It's really irritating when something is withheld from the reader because it seems to be so important, but then in the end it's a load of rubbish when it FINALLY comes out.

Of course the end holds a brand new twist, why not? Times and difficult to follow in the book and the epilogues are no different - let's go backwards because it will truly explain everything. But by the time I got there I just did not care any more. I'd invested long enough in reading that I was just getting to the end to get it done. This reads like a good short story that was dragged out without any real editing to identify the unnecessary fluff.

I've just had a look at all the other books I've read by Kathryn Croft, and I generally give two stars and complain about the same ridiculous plot devices used. I really should stop reading them.

When you’re married it’s always important to spend quality time together and nurture the relationship. Sometimes, you might even have to put yourself out of your comfort zone.

But it’s wise not to go too far. The couples in The Other Husband have a dinner party and decide to switch husbands. After that evening, everything changes and from then on in the book envelops you in a web of lies, deceit and second guesses.

It’s a rollercoaster of a thriller and I devoured it in just a few hours. The characters were flawed, yet vulnerable and somehow it was hard to hate them. The author also keeps changing your mind as to who you think is the villain which makes you want to keep reading.

Although the story is well-crafted, the ending(s) felt a little rushed and ridiculous; if anything there were too many twists and turns for such a short book. It actually got quite irritating that something was resolved.. only to be flipped again just a few pages later by the arrival of a new character or information to which we readers were not privy.

That said, I did really enjoy it and liked the fact that the book wasn’t obvious. There were some clichés but overall the surprises outweighed them.

Fast-paced, interesting and refreshing.

I was provided with a copy by the author for Love Book Tours. All opinions my own.

Ocena: Niedobra.

I really struggled with this book and only got to the end due to the fact it was audible. Didn't find the characters likeable and it just became a frustrating read. The end wasn't what you expected but I was so bored by the end of it that It didn't really change anything.
