If you’d have told me at the beginning of this year that I would read a book that ends with a lesbian couples happy ending being that one of them starts writing erotica in Victorian England I’m not sure what I would said or done. And yet here we are, and I’m not mad about it.

A wild book full of twist and turns. The set up to the plot is engaging and then it keeps spiraling. I loved the chaos I felt for the characters in the drama I was just immaculate. I think what’s holding me back from a full 5 stars is that my main feeling from this book is shock and I think I need some more time to sit with the book and decide how I really feel about the characters and the story.
Graphic: Death, Forced institutionalization, Blood, Murder, and Confinement
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Sexual content, Medical trauma, and Domestic abuse

I think I read this at the wrong time in my life. While wonderfully written without a doubt, the entire thing is so bleak that I could only tolerate bite-sized bits at a time. I wanted desperately to love Fingersmith as it's the inspiration for my favorite movie, but I can't say I actually enjoyed reading it.
