I have to remind myself when I read the old Nancy Drew stories that they are for another time. They're so silly to a modern reader! But I enjoyed this mystery, as I always do when I read Nancy.

In this book, Nancy is invited to search for a missing message from the 1600s in a hollow oak in Illinois. She goes looking and of course finds more than she bargained for.

This book is amusing and fast paced, and I enjoyed reading it.

This was just a story about a glorified grave digging expedition and hidden treasure by a racist missionary 🙄 nothing redeeming at all. Clem was literally the only one who pointed out the hypocrisy of it all.

Reading this as an adult really puts things to a different perspective. I just relaized this series was created in the 1930's. When I was younger I thought they were going for a vintage vibe but literally this book IS vintage. It still was enjoyable though.
