I love Huck’s moral development and Jim’s constant goodness in spite of hardship.

Elijah Wood does an amazing job with all the different accents and dialects, great narration.

It starts out a bit slow, but once Huck and Jim set out on the raft, they go from one adventure to the next. Huck is uneducated, but not dumb, he’s quick, but easily swayed by a good argument. He’s got a big heart and his feelings about Jim are rightfully complicated, he loves him, but doesn’t feel they’re equal. He wants to do right by him, but doesn’t want to do wrong by what’s expected. The N-word is heavily used, and I feel like a part of that over usage is used to show how little African Americans are thought of, of this hybrid of animal and human. But, for the most part, Huck refers to Jim as one thing, and treats him as an equal. The other part of it’s over usage is expectations of the region.

Twain is hilarious. He pokes fun of religion, spirituality, drunks, and education. Aside the grifters’ The Royal Nonesuch production, the best bits were Tom Sawyer helping Huck free Tom from being held prisoner. And in the end he was already free!

I do have to say though, I felt bad for Tom the whole time. It’s written like he’s fine with everything that’s happening, but it was pretty awful what he dealt with, honestly.
