Shannon Hale is amazing and this book is as good as the first in the series. I hope there are more!

This was a chapter sampler.

Great beginning. Art by Pham is wonderful. Can't wait to read the rest!

Accidentally read the second book in the series first but oh well!! You don't have to read it in order obviously!

I definitely cried reading this. Absolutely phenomenal! I was expecting something mostly for kids, but my 24-year-old heart needed this right now. I completely relate to Shannon's experiences, and this helped me realize that I'm still a work in progress and not a failed venture. Highly recommend!

Real Friends and Best Friends are THE books/graphic novels for middle school girls. TEN OUT OF TEN recommend- friendship issues, school issues, new “crush” issues, anxiety, jealousy, family struggles, etc etc! Told with honesty & authenticity- 100% know that grade 5-7 girls will love these books and will relate to every situation!
As an adult- and a teacher of this grade level- I ALSO truly enjoyed and appreciated these graphic novels ❤️

I relate so much to Shannon Hale in this series. I never knew how to navigate these friendships and had so much stress trying to. There was so much I loved about school, but 4-8th grades were so tough socially--she captures it perfectly.

I think I enjoyed this installment more than the first! I liked that Shannon Hale included excerpts from the book she started writing as a child and the artwork was great! This book reminded me a lot of the book by Raina Telgemeier where she dealt with stomaches and anxiety and mean friends. I love that she learned to stand up for herself and realized her needs and wants. Can’t wait to read the next one!

The middle grade years can be tough, especially when you're also dealing with anxiety. Hale captures it perfectly, almost painfully.
