another interesting story from clarice lispector that really lets you understand a character through the eyes of her experiences in a natural way yet also being able to make you feel uncomfortable and out of place in the right moments. great book!

One does not read this book for a narrative plot; rather, it is a novel that appeals to readers who want to get into the psyche and inner workings of a character's mind--a character who does not share the same mindset around happiness and morality as those who surround her.
Lispector's writing is thought-provoking and at times abstract. It demands undivided attention. While this is not a page turner in the same sense as a crime thriller would be, I found it to be incredibly engaging because I was in awe of Lispector's word choices. I wanted her words to pour over me like ocean water on a hot day.
