I’m reviewing the series as a whole. I know a lot of people love this series, but it was a miss for me. I love the Netflix show and was looking for more of the lore around the keys and the Locke family. I definitely got that, but I didn’t find the world of the graphic novels nearly as enjoyable. I really love the concept and world building, but I felt like I would have appreciated it more if someone else had written it. That being said, it was nice to learn about some other keys that may be featured in the upcoming season.

I felt like a lot of the content was included merely for shock value. I didn’t appreciate the liberal use of the R slur or the misogynistic language. It seemed like sexual assault was thrown around for entertainment which always strikes me as lazy writing. I found it difficult to like many of the characters. It’s a relatively short series and I felt like some of the characters would have grown on me if they’d had more time to develop. It’s difficult to understand what motivates some of the character because they appear so briefly. You never really get the sense that the Lockes are a team or that they are close as a family, so Dodge’s ultimate motivation made little sense to me. Horror isn’t my genre so take what I say with a grain of salt if you’re a fan. I was turned off by the brutality of the world. I doubt I’ll revisit the series.
