The publisher and Netgalley provided me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Kara is off-duty, taking an essential, if mandatory, vacation away from the stress of her job as an undercover detective. Her vacation is interrupted by the discovery of a corpse during her morning run, Soon, Kate becomes embroiled in an insidious game of cat and mouse.

Kate and a team of FBI agents must struggle to stay one step ahead of a vicious killer. Identifying the pattern of the killings, and predicting when the next strike will occur is a harrowing race against time. The plot twists were unpredictable and I was gripping the edge of my seat the last 30% of the novel.

This is the first in a series, and is a gritty, procedural crime story that fans of Patricia Cornwell and Karin Slaughter will enjoy.

Fairly compelling story and does make you want to keep reading the series to see how the relationships of the FBI group evolve.

[email protected]% I'm not a fan of this audiobook narrator, I normally listen to audio at 2x speed but just awkward listening to short/no pauses in between sentences and flat reading of words just put me off and can't get into the story. I've tried speeding up and slowing down but can't stand it. Nothing against the book to dnf but I'm 95% audiobook listener so I'll probably skip this series.

I really wanted to like this because I'm part of the blog tour for this book, but I disliked the protagonist as soon as I started reading her. I understand that not every protagonist is going to be likeable, but she gave off "not like other girls" vibes, and I just couldn't engage with that.

Fun and relatively fast paced, although maybe a lil heavy handed with the “good cop” stuff.

Really enjoyed the book. It started fast enough to grab my attention and moved fast enough to hold it.
Some of the characters were not developed until later in the book and had me wondering about them.
Bringing the villain and his thoughts into the flow worked well for me. I was a a little disappointed in the ending (felt incomplete) but since it is "Mobile Response Team, #1" it leaves the door open for further MRT thrillers.
