Glad we got some satisfaction of powers and relationships building. Still a lot to develop or understand but I’m intrigued

I'm going to keep this review rather short. The first book shocked me with how great it was. This second book was right up there with the first. Typically with the second book I expect the plot to fall apart a bit more and have the characters devolve and stray from themselves. This never happened. This book hit all the marks I hoped for and then just hit more. I love all of the characters and the storyline and I can't wait for the next in this series.

Lera and her guys decided to keep the quint together, but the council is not happy about it and they make them train as if they were a new quint. Now they need to pass 3 trials, and Lera discovers that she might be more special than she thought.

This book starts right off where book 1 left. I like Lera, but I wish we could see more of her personality showing.

I'm still enjoying it, even though these books are so short I feel like we don't have much time to unfold the plot.

Also, the Council is so corrupt and inept that they need to be ended. I don't give a fuck whether they think they are trying to best fight the monsters, they have become all about their own power, and are now monsters themselves. I was skeptical in book 1, when we found that they tend to sever bonds between quints and force a bond with one of their patsies - that tells me that it isn't just Klarissa who is corrupt, but rather the entire Council. They are undermining and undercutting the magic that is supposed to protect everyone, and they are doing it to feed their own power. Fuck them. I hope Lera's quint destroys them. The Elder defending their bullshit and telling River that he should stay focused on the real enemy can eat a bag of dicks. This Council is the real enemy, turning the quints against each other - Malikai's bullshit just undermines any kind of morale for the teams, and the whole hazing structure of the trials means that if the shit really hits the fan the quints will never be able to work with each other as an army - all to keep themselves on top of the power structure.

And it is hilarious that they say
Spoileroh if only we knew you had a weaver, we'd have helped! Buuuuuuuuuullllllllllshit. You saw the mark they got - you GAVE it to them! - and that mark is what indicated that Lera is a weaver. You didn't care, because you were never looking to HELP. You were only looking after your own petty bullshit.
