The writing and the characters are just too cringy, I can’t keep going… What a shame since the story seemed  interesting and i’ve heard good things about the book.

I could not put this book down! Another great story by Jessie Burton, and I look forward to reading more from her.

The story was nice enough but I just could not get past the writing style. It was like every little thing became the biggest deal in the eyes of the characters and they were all so excessively self aware that it damaged the immersion.

I thought I would hate this book. The writing style feels a bit cringe to begin with. But Jessie burton really knows how to draw you in! And then the scene at the end ?! Well worth a read.

This book was marvellous! It turned out to be nothing at all like I expected, and I think I loved it even more for that. This book was so engrossing!! It was impossible to read in one sitting, being just over 450 pages, but it was good enough to deserve that dedication. The way the story developed was done so perfectly! I loved the way it was told - in alternating sections of past and present, from two separate POV's which really helped build emotional connections with the characters, even the ones that didn't come across as nice. I found myself completely captivated by this story - by the characters, the settings, the mystery that was slowly revealed. Everything. It was amazing. Much better than I had anticipated. This was my first book by Jessie Burton, and hopefully won't be my last. I fell in love with her writing style. The way she told the story and how the plot developed - wow. It was superb! Loved it!

Stunning. Just stunning.

This book was strangely personal to me in a way that no other book has been in a long time. I really felt the magic of Jessie Burton's writing in this book than in her other two that I have read. And it's strange because I didn't identify with the stories of the 3 main women in this book as I'm sure others might but with a, I guess you could call, a secondary character. Her story.

I won't go into it because of spoilers but let's just say that the words "I wanted that one" have never moved me in a way that they did here.

Jessie Burton is an incredible writer, and this is an incredible book.
