This book has the perfect witchy vibes for October while also being full of heart, emotion, depth, and adorable, quirky characters. I absolutely loved how unexpectedly complex this plot was, the twists and turns, and the journey all the characters went through. It was everything I wanted from this book. I am desperate to know if there will be sequels because I need to know what happens with Tia and Leah and if they find their HEAs (I have my sights on at least one of the MMC I think should star in followups!). I would also love a little bonus epilogue with Emma and Bastion and them living their life together with their familiars and all those high jinx. Honestly, this book was so atmospheric and if you are looking for a witchy book, with witchy vibes, this book promises all that and more!

Emma is a self-professed wallflower. She's a witch with little power, and after being left at the altar by her childhood friend-turned-arranged betrothed, she moves to a new city and opens a bar. When Bastian returns and announces that he wants her back, secrets from the past start to cause a lot of trouble.

This was a fun romance, and while I enjoyed the writing, I found myself feeling disconnected from both of our main characters. Both Emma and Bastian needed to learn and grow in very different ways, and usually I love that, but I found that both of them felt very surface-level to me. I wasn't really invested in the growth of their relationship.

At times I found both of them a little unlikeable, but that wasn't often. Emma took a long time to stand up to her horrible mother, and Bastian came across as selfish while expecting Emma to apologize to him. They both had major trust issues; this book was very emotional and angsty at times. There was a good amount of magic sprinkled throughout the story, but I could do with more.

Overall I would recommend this to someone who enjoys contemporary witchy romances.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy.

4⭐️ A cozy, witchy second chance romcom that’s as much about self-love as it is romantic connection- perfect for fans of The Ex Hex

The Witch Is Back is a witchy second chance, marriage of convenience romance. Emma and Bastian were friends their whole life and were destined to be married. But just before their wedding Bastian left without a word and left Emma heartbroken. Since then Emma has moved on and build a life for herself. Now Bastian is back to win her over and they enter a marriage of convenience.

I was really excited to read this book but unfortunately it just didn’t hit the spot with me. The book was written in third person, which I am not a huge fan of. It took me at least half of the book to get into it, for the majority of it it was a 3 star book then towards the end it went up to a 3.5 star

The Witch is Back by Sophie H. Morgan has the raw materials of an excellent book. The structure, plot, and general characterizations are great. I began the book really wanting to follow Emma and Bastien through a satisfying, slightly spooky, second-chance romance. But by 25%, I was wishing that Ms. Morgan had a better editor. Poor Emma had too many strikes against her, it was a wonder she could walk under the weight of it all. And Bastien? Well, he needed some fine-tuning to make him a hero I wanted for Emma. Instead, for most of the book, he seemed like one more anchor around her already-strained neck. And the former best friends angle? I didn't buy it at all. Repeating that they were best friends multiple times did nothing to actually prove that was the case, and, sadly, that was the one plot point that could have saved this romance for me. But I didn't see it, and I didn't feel it. The ending was mostly satisfying, but I almost didn't make it there.

I absolutely loved how cute this book was! I enjoyed the witchy world that Sophie H. Morgan created with high families, marriage pacts and familiar pets. This book was quick and easy to read.

I was so bored and uninterested. Maybe I will try to revisit.
