I struggled with this book. I loved Mal and thought the author definitely wrote him true to his erratic character type. However, in a romance he was completely overbearing. In fact, the way he bulldozed into Anne's life made me lose all respect for her. She may be loyal to her sister, but she was an absolute doormat in every other aspect of her life. I really, really wanted a great rockstar romance when I picked up this book, but Mal & Anne aren't that couple. I laughed several times, and I felt sad for Mal's family situation, but I didn't get a sense of romance or connection with the main characters. My rating for this book is 2.5 stars.

Definitely Good

While I did really enjoy this book and these characters the timeline still is a little quick for me. That said Mal was kind of like a temperamental puppy himself so I got a kick out of him. I'd have like to have spent a longer course of time with these characters but I really did enjoy the story.

This could be my favorite Kylie Scott book.

Mal...o my sweet, crazy Mal. Out of all of the guys, he’s my favorite! It’s crazy how good Kylie writes her characters, because I feel like Mal is a real person, and I want to get to know him! He’s the most personable, the best time for a party, but also he feels the most. He tries to hide his pain, and it comes out in the music and his drumming.

In walks Anne. An avid stage dive lover, who is friends with friends of the band, she meets Mal at a party. Mal needs a place to stay, Anne needs a new roommate. Mal puts 2+2 together and comes up with 5...fake a relationship. His solution is all about distraction from other issues and hiding certain things from his band mates.

Anne is a strong female character, dedicated to getting her sister threw college and into a better life then what they’ve had growing up. She knows hard work and sacrifice, which she wants to protect her sister from feeling.

Anne has never walked on the wild side, Mal lives on the wild side. Forming an unlikely friendship, Mal and Anne venture into something neither has ever experienced before. Anne gets Mal’s erratic and crazy behavior, and Mal wants to crack that shell surrounding Anne.

They both have growing pains, and life circumstances almost force them apart. Is love started from a lie strong enough to survive real life?

Honestly, I highly recommend this story, this series, all of it! Kylie Scott writes the most amazing character in the Stage Dive series, and they are the best on audible with Andi Arndt narrating!! 10 stars, read it!!

Ah, I loved Mal and Anne’s story! Mal was my favorite side character from Lick, so I was really excited to read his book! Mal is that fun, easy-going player type that doesn’t take life too seriously. But beneath that happy-go-lucky attitude, there’s a lot of pain he’s dealing with. Anne was perfect for him. I loved her! I laughed so many times in this book, and really enjoyed the read.

So funny.

I did NOT expect this book to be as funny as it was. And again, the author brings us an insta-love story but made it so much more. Loved it!
