3.5 stars, it was a bit more graphic than I'm looking for.. I'm gonna try one more before deciding if this a series for me.

The setting is beautifully developed and explored in great detail. I was pulled in foe the first 1/2. Ultimately I felt like there were way too many sub plots and side characters that just made things confusing. And a white lady saves the day at the end. Wished Perveen had more power and autonomy.

This domestic thriller revolves around the will of a deceased man, evolving into a gripping murder mystery. Set against the backdrop of 1920s Bombay, it masterfully brings to life the nuances of this old, developing city.

What I found particularly engaging was the portrayal of Parveen Mistry, a pioneering female lawyer, who exemplifies perseverance and the courage to stand up for oneself in a society rife with traditional customs and gender biases. The book not only weaves a compelling mystery but also sheds light on the past customs and the status of women in that era.

Really interesting setting and cultural situations. Very well researched. But I will admit to skimming at sections… Overall enjoyable
