I nearly DNFd multiple times…

I am still debating if I’ll ever continue with this series. The end set up an interesting plot, but there was not one redeemable character in this entire book. I hated everyone.

The FMC is so so naive in her narrations, and even though she’s an unreliable narrator I didn’t find anything to redeem exactly how ridiculous she was acting. Nothing she did made sense for a person who’s been through trauma and/or grew past the age of 12.

I very single man in this story is a hot pile of garbage. There was plenty of smutty references in this book and it was all disgusting.

This was definitely not my cup of tea. Maybe I’ll give book 2 a try, but if there ends up being no character development or positive interpersonal interactions, I give up.

I'm going to give the second book a chance (only because its on KU) but I cringed throughout most of this book. It was frequently gross and kind of predictable. I just didn't enjoy it much. Wouldn't compare this to Maas books.

This is an intense read. I’m not sure what I expected but this did surprise me. I do really love Auren and am excited to see how her character continues to develop. I also really enjoyed the dual narration of this audiobook version. Still the violence against women in this story is a lot so it’s not going to be for everyone

I did enjoy this story. However, it was a little rough in spots. There were definitely moments I found enjoyable and Im growing to like the FMC more and more. I'm excited to see where everything goes from here

I really enjoyed this book. Just when you think Auren will get a bit of a chance at  some freedoms in her life, things change. Auren’s life is thrown off kilter and she must find the strength to survive and help the other saddles survive as well. Auren reveals something about herself that she’s kept secret all her life. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! How will Auren find her way back to her beloved King without revealing anything else?

I'm not the biggest fan of books that rely on "the world is dark and spooky because look at how abused women are". This is a lot of sexual abuse happening in this book and the women have exactly zero agency in it. The climax of the entire book includes a fairly detailed rape scene to it. There is absolutely zero "girlbossing" of any kind in it, regardless of what the main character thinks in the later half of the book.

I'm embarrassed to admit I was entertained by it, but here we are. It was kind of like From Blood and Ash but actually well written. I guess even I like this shit ass world building every now and again.

King Midas retelling. Very toxic, was not a fan. Explicit sexual assault scenes. Main character is sex slave trophy who is obsessed with and submissive to her abuser. Graphic misogynistic language. May develop in subsequent books, but I did not enjoy.
