While I enjoyed many features of this novel, including the prose, settings and the imaginary world, I couldn't get past vthe obtuse lead character. She drops herself into the villain's hand despite obvious signs of his nature. Really frustrating.

(more a 3.6 star) A fresh take on fantasy that seems to reveal "real" life as a sort of fairy tale as the characters move between worlds. Writing was quite good and I cared about the characters, but somehow it never mesmerized me. Still an enjoyable and worthwhile read, especially if you're looking for something out of the ordinary.

Ahh. This book. This book! The Ten Thousand Doors of January is immersive and imaginative and I can’t get enough of this world!! January is such a dynamic heroine and her evolution from prim to rebellious and adventurous is just a wonderful journey. You need to read this book!
