Finally! After two months of chipping away at this amazing novel, I'm finished. I loved this book so much. There were some slow bits, especially toward the end, but the overall story and epistolary style was amazing. The realism in this piece blew me away, especially regarding how progressive the story is. The idea of a woman leaving her abusive husband in the 1800s was taboo and improper, which was so messed up considering how horrible Helen's circumstances became over time. The balance of youth and desire against suffering and guardedness was tangible and accessible in her character. I relate so much to Helen, especially as a mother, and the complexity of her character rivals both Charlotte and Emily's heroines in regard to personality, depth, and accomplishments. I loved the presence of a strong, emotional, grounded woman, who was nurturing, loyal, and fiercely independent, even when she felt trapped by her circumstances. I will most likely read this again someday. Loved it!

Didn't finish... lost interest when the idea of romance between the two lead voices took over for me. Like the two different voices but found myself not wanting to pick it up anymore about halfway through.

I have a soft spot for Anne out of all of the Brontë's. It may just be my youngest child syndrome, but it still is there.
I very much enjoyed this. I felt very passionate and annoyed when
Arthur, sweet little Arthur, was being included in his father's horrible plans. I was actually quite stressed. It shows the possible reality of the marriages in this time, and is actually quite sad and horrifying. And the poor pups! Have mercy, that was sad to read.

Overall, this was actually really easy to read. It wasn't super flowery and complicated to read in modern times, which I liked, as sometimes classics can tend to bog me down with fancy language. This was in letter/diary style, which made it more simple and enjoyable.

Este livro teria tido cinco estrelas se não fosse a existência do Gilbert Markham e eu não tivesse de ter lido metade da história a partir do ponto de vista da sua irritante pessoa.
