An informative and eye-opening book that covers every single base when it comes to racism in Britain, from black history to the many flaws in the system to how racism intersects with feminism. Why are we not taught any of this at school?? Essential reading for white people so we can be true allies to people of colour.

A book every white person should read. As a person of white privilege, I thought myself a well-read, non racist moral person.  I still feel I'm well read but now feel much more educated, especially in the context of historical black history in the UK, my knowledge limited to US history taught in school. The title itself is very smack it in your face polarising, but I read it anyway. For me, the most interesting, thought-provoking, and challenging chapter was the one about feminism. Overall It was a sad emotional must-read book giving me a better understanding of the issues involved, and I hope making me a better informed ally.

Incredible book, had helped me understand racism and inspired me to do what I can to be anti-racisit.

Prior to reading this I experienced a microaggression that kind of set me back emotionally and professionally. I didn’t know how to respond, but I at least knew how to cope—I’m a bookworm and find answers in books. In seeking out answers, I had the opportunity to use this book to affirm my experiences, validating them and reassuring me.

This book is an excellent resource for those who want to understand but cannot and for those who need a sense of comfort for the experiences of prejudice and discrimination that you constantly deal with. Excellent research was incorporated into the work and the narrative is well done!

This is probably controversial but I feel anyone rating this badly is probably in somewhat of a denial or defensive position about how we as a society treat minorities.
Fabulous book highlighting real people’s experiences and the state of systemic racism. Makes you take a good, hard look at your contributions/omissions regarding racism.
