I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of a honest review.

I'm afraid I lost interest in this one and had to DNF it. However I read 75% of it and I can say the beginning was th weak part. Nothing really happens until about 50% into the book and by then, the story had lost so much of its initial spark that I realized I had to drop it or I'd just end up with a headache. That said, it may just be that it wasn't my moment and I shouldn't have let so much time pass between reading sessions.

Or... that instead of being badass, Ari is a whinny mess that won't shut up about how her life sucks. (It does.) I was so happy that at least Isla could call on her shit. It wasn't well received, as was expected, but even though over-the-top, it was necessary. Ari needed to get herself together and do stuff.

The highlight of this book would be the underlying plot of the engineered babies issue. That looks promising!

If you thought the first book was like the Hunger Games, then this one is his twin. I'm being serious. It might be enjoyable for the right people. Unfortunately, it wasn't entirely for me. I really do hope it finds its home with someone else, because even though I didn't finish it I see a lot going on with this series in the future.

Zane REALLY annoyed me in this book. Dude, she told you she loves Cal, so please, back off. I get it, Ariana didn't really make him go away, but maybe if he had left her alone, she wouldn't have had to question her feelings. I'm NOT Team Zane, and very very barely Team Ariana at this point.

Siobhan Davis is one of those authors who, after just one book, I knew I needed to devour all their work. My introduction came through the Saven series, and since then I have been happy to devour all the books she releases. Throughout it all, the True Calling series has been sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read. It wasn’t that I had no wish to read the series, as I did, I simply found myself reading other things instead. Finally, I’ve reached the point where I’m amending my error and going back to see where it all started.

In truth, I did not enjoy True Calling as much as I had hoped I would. It was interesting enough to keep me turning the pages, but I was never as invested as I had hoped to be. It was fun, but it wasn’t to the calibre of other Siobhan Davis books. Nevertheless, I was curious to see how the second book played out.

With Beyond Reach, I found my feelings to be rather mixed. Part of me enjoyed this one more than I enjoyed True Calling, whereas another part of me did not enjoy it quite as much. It certainly had me turning the pages, it left me desperate to see how everything comes together in the final book, but it did not wow me in the way other Siobhan Davis books have.

I think my biggest issue with Beyond Reach is there were far too many predictable elements for my liking. I knew within no time at all where certain aspects of the story were heading, and this disappointed me as Siobhan Davis is usually one to pull all kinds of twists out of the bag. With this one, there wasn’t really anything that surprised me. All the big things I managed to work out well in advance, and all the smaller details were expected to some degree.

However, I do feel as though more happened within this one. There was a lot more development of the world, with more things taking place throughout the story. This is why my feelings were mixed – even though things were predictable, the story did move forward in some interesting ways. There were plenty of things to enjoy, plenty of things to experience, and this kept me turning the pages despite the fact I’d worked out where things were going.

If I was more invested in the characters, were I not over love triangles, I believe I may have enjoyed this one a bit more than I did. As it is, this was just an okay read. Enjoyable, but far from my favourite Siobhan Davis read.

After reading True Calling and Lovestruck, I could not wait to read this book. I had another book to read first and even though I enjoyed it, it was killing me to wait to read this one. I was not disappointed. I was taken on a very exciting journey with friends and mentors who turn out to be enemies, enemies who turn out to be looking out for you, and a government that is so twisted they mess with people's memories and DNA! Taking us again through Ari's POV and then Zane's POV, this book tells what happened after True Calling. We've got another cliffhanger though, and I can't wait to be able to afford #2.5 and #3!!! Definitely a series worth reading for any fan of YA, dystopian, love triangles, or sci-fi type books. Will be recommending to all my friends!

Stále také slabšie 4*
Autorka sa posúva vpred, dej napreduje a ja už vážne netuším, kto je zlý a kto dobrý. Tie jej konce by mali zakázať.

I hate Zane. I really, truly hate him. He's horrible and manipulative but hey he cares and does nice things so he's a "nice guy". It's such crap. Ariana would be better off without him rather than feeling guilty.

Overall though the world building was good and the rest of the characters interesting.
