I studied this book for my Renaissance Drama class. It was pretty strange. Not as tragic as I imagined it to be, being a tragedy and all, I think only two people die... maybe three. I only vaguely understand what happened, due to the whole Renaissance part.

now that I finished it, I honestly just feel indifferent.
The overall storyline sounds pretty exciting in theory but the excessive amount of monologues and soliloquies just made it feel bland, repetitive, and drawn out.
Obviously, this book is rather significant for women's writing, so if that is something you're passionate about: go for it.
I, for my part, probably won't go back to this one after handing in my reading response for class.

Damn constabarus really hated women when Salome said she wanted to divorce him......little did he know, she was initially planning to kill him and that he should have taken her up on the divorce. Oh well, he's dead AND divorced now. Sucks to be a misogynistic and narcissitic shithead.

I actually enjoyed it. It was t super gorey, all the death scenes were off stage. The female characters are unparalleled for the time and there were some funny bits. It’s sad I had to take a grad class to even hear about this book.
