Heartbreaking. The childhood ignorance was so heartrendingly painful. Their friendship was beautiful. brought me to an ugly cry with only 215 pages.

Nine-year-old Bruno suddenly has to move from the city to an isolated house in the country. He leaves his friends and is unable to make any new ones because there is no school in close range. This move raises a lot of new questions for Bruno. Who is the 'Fury'? and why has his family had to move from their large home in Berlin to 'Out With' and most importantly who are the people in the stripped pyjamas? Bruno likes to explore and this new home doesn't offer much inside space so he travels outside to the fenced off land beyond his house. There he meets a boy - wearing the stripped pyjamas.
(Sadly I overheard the end of this novel before I read it!!)
I feel as though I should add that while Bruno seems completely unaware of the devastating events that are occurring everyday around him, he is nine after all and the information is probably kept hidden from him by his mother. Also because he is so young that can explain why so much vital information and correct words are left out of the novel to give the book a more authentic vibe. If Bruno was older I would be very curious as to why he had such little knowledge about the events around him but given his age I can understand what the author was trying to achieve.

But

I keep reading other reviews and they point out some major errors. Bruno would have known a lot more about what was occurring around him for various reasons. Nazi education and Hitler youth would have shoved down his throat the false ideologies presented about Jewish people and children around him would have suddenly disappeared while others would have openly spoken negatively about Jewish people. I could probably go on but I will leave my review at that.
