Loved the Blackbird story in this, Magami Nanakuse is ridiculous and the lowest point. Couldn’t quite get what he was going for with that one. Overall these are just fun concise horror stories. In the afterword Ito mentions this not necessarily being his greatest work and I would agree with that but enjoyed it nonetheless.

This was a collection of short manga  stories so the characters questions don't really apply. What makes Junji Ito so different is his drawing style is so creepy it's so incredibly done

Some pretty creepy stories in this one. My favorites are Tomio: Red Turtleneck, Gentle Goodbye, and Whispering Woman.

knocked a star off for the transphobia :/ otherwise just as horrific and grotesque as you'd expect from ito.

Being an anthology, the stories are going to be hit and miss.

And most of these are misses. I couldn’t even remember most of these until I reread the manga. Which I am disappointed by. The art in this manga is fantastic as always, but just because the art is good, doesn’t mean anything if the story isn’t.

Most of Junji Ito’s anthology stories are great, especially when they delve into psychological horror or the unknown, but these stories are just…meh. They feel like ‘Deleted Scenes’ from a movie, stories that weren’t good and were just cut from the official movie. Except these deleted scenes actually got a full manga. The highlights for me were “Gentle Goodbye” and “Whispering Woman”.

I believe Uzumaki or No Longer Human either as introductions or a new Junji Ito manga you want to buy. Or if you’re looking for an anthology, I suggest Shiver or Smashed.

Fragments of Horror though? This manga you’ll probably buy just to have a complete collection of work.
