MMD 2020 Reading Challenge - a book in translation

A literary police procedural that makes me wish I could read it in the language it was written in. It's a dark one though with a lot of potential triggers.

This was good, I guess. I'd really give it a 2 1/2 star rating but I'm feeling a little generous. This book was recommended since I enjoyed the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Harry Hole series (Scandanavian thriller/mystery/crime drama genre, apparently). It wasn't as good as those but it wasn't bad. I pretty much had it all figured out about halfway through and just waited for it to all play out. I didn't find myself particularly attached to any of the characters. Not sure if I would continue with this series or not... I think there are other things I would prefer to spend my time with.

Very solid Scandinavian police procedural. A bit too much navel-gazing about the lot of the lonely detective for five stars, but satisfying if you like the genre.

This was my first and the first Inspector Van Veeteren book and I was impressed. The mystery was a fairly easy one, I had it figured out early on, but the book moved fast and was easy to read despite being translated from Swedish. I look forward to picking up more novels about this cranky detective.

My first Inspector Van Vetereen novel. Outstanding. Love Nordic Noir. Tragic and very mysterious. It was a page turner that had me guessing until the end. The characters are intriguing. The entire plot was well organized and quite original. Enjoyed this very much.
