I didn't particularly like or dislike the book, it was a nice read, I just wasn't really connected to the characters and parts of the story. I quite liked the first half of the book, rather enjoyable. I liked learning about the characters, the game design world and other things related to the coding and what not. I was really entertained during then. Unfortunately, I did not feel the same for the later part of the book. There were random kissing with friends, lots of random sexual content, etc. Also Dov is really disgusting but I can also see why Sadie still wants to be his friend although he is a predator going for young girls... I really liked the friendship between Sam and Sadie and the process in which they designed the games and created the games. I think it was not something we often see in books where the main characters are usually lovers. Pretty nice perspective. Additionally, I really loved Marx! He's such a kind and genuine person and he has helped Sam a lot with his injury and caring for him. I LOVE the grandparents! They're so sweet and nice, they sound like lovely people :) I felt the ending was a very nice closure to the entire book, although nearing the end iykyk was SO sad :C To think that such things actually happen in real life and is as abrupt as it was in the book...

the language was too flowery and didn’t match the plot at all and led to me taking forever to finish. and then the two main characters were boring and the one interesting character they did so dirty and for no reason. only gave it an extra star bc it did manage to make me cry.

A book that will leave an ache in me for quite awhile. This was a bit over hyped in my opinion, but I can't deny the beautiful and oftentimes inventive way that Zevin creates a world through and around Sadie and Sam. Primarily though, this is a book about trauma and pain and the love we find despite all that, which is important to know before you pick this up. It also speaks beautifully to creativity and imagination and what we seek when we play.
