Weird twist at the end that I didn't really like, but I do like the lack of a happy ending. True, most Goosebumps books end with a bit of a cliff-hanger detail, but this one ended with no real conclusion other than "bad ending."

Honestly, same old recycled characters and the story was also quite average, although I was routing for the main characters so I'll give it that....
And one thing I absolutely loved is the original cover, it in itself is better than the whole story!!

Unfortunately, I sat on this one too long to be able to give a super in-depth review, but the details I do still have enforce my lukewarm impression of this installment in the Goosebumps series.
The set-up had potential, and we got some good use out of the 'my parents don't believe me' tension. And frankly, I didn't even really have a problem with our protagonist. But so much of it felt derivative of Fever Swamp to really stand on its own.
I assume to combat that comparison the climax drags the reader sideways into what feels like a totally different story that's just too goofy compared to everything that came before to feel cohesive.
Not my favorite, though it did make me want to crack open Fever Swamp to see if my suspicions are correct.

I liked the concept, but it fell a little flat while reading it. It took a while for the reveal of the "barking ghost" (even though the title pretty much gives away what it is...), but then the reveal is awkwardly around two-thirds through, which means there's then an extra third of the book where the plot moves on elsewhere... and it might have been nice to make that a larger focus of the book. But it was still a fun enough easy read, it just didn't blow me away the way a kids ghost book should.
