What will I do with my life now??? I already miss the Havenforts, Masons, and Demerovens 😭 I generally don't like all the political talk that comes with high society male characters, but I like how progressive the laws they want to pass are. I still don't know what to feel about James, but he has definitely grown. I am not a fan of the third act break up- I felt the heartbreak to the core :( I am happy where the couples have gone and the epilogue just makes me feel all bubbly.

I also like how Gwen and Beth still maintained their characteristics and personalities from the previous book and just how funny they are. There is still a lot of arguments that surround them. All the love in these two families just make me feel so warm and fuzzy 🥰

I think James needs to go to therapy though. He has a lot of trauma he has to deal with. I'll be damned if he hurts Bobby anymore 😤

All the internalized homophobia and blackmailing from Raverson is just sad. Dude is addicted to gambling with the hope of making something for himself. I hope being dunked into the lake cleared his head.

I can't docked points for how frustrated Alban made me get with James, but there were a few grammar and spelling errors that caught my eye.

I really loved this book overall. I think they may have missed the mark a bit on some more opportunities for the actual extortion part of the story. However, the love story was beautifully developed and gradual in ways where it made sense. Overall, loved it and would recommend!

Very funny cast of characters. It also gave me a new perspective on childbirth during the Victorian era and how dangerous it could be. It something I can say I take for granted in modern day thanks to advancements in medicine.

and you know what? I enjoyed witnessing the raw emotion from the male characters, who are male. Their heartbreak scenes are so relatable and realistic. I was happy to see them

I applied to read an ARC of this book on NetGalley after reading the first book in this series.

You're the Problem picks up where the final scene of Don't Want You Like a Best Friend leaves off, but from the perspective of Bobby Mason, a side character from the first story that is also gay. At the beginning of the story, he’s feeling disconnected from his brother and sister-in-law due to his brother taking over the family title and sister-in-law facing a difficult pregnancy in the country. Beth’s cousin, James, has also come to town after inheriting the viscount title from her father. Beth and Gwen start scheming to set up Bobby and James after seeing the looks between the two at the first ball of the season, but things don’t go quite as planned when their very different personalities, backgrounds, and values collide.

When compared to the first book, I did enjoy this one more. There was more relationship buildup and a lot more spice. I also felt like the stakes were higher with the final solution being less obvious (from the character's perspective). However, it was very difficult for me to sympathize with James’s actions and frankly horrible personality for 80% of the story. I think being around Bobby’s family throughout the first book helped me sympathize with him more, even when I thought he was being stupid. James was just downright mean at times. This story also suffers from a similar issue as the first. The romantic feelings appear at the flip of a switch. Besides the sudden change, I enjoyed James's character growth and the relationship building for the polycule, not just the main couple of this story. The ending was very cute and sweet and just what I wanted for our 4 LGBTQ characters.

tysm to avon books for the arc of this book

i so love this world that emma alban has created and im in love with all the characters but gwen is still my favorite and this book actually made me love her more.

this book had a much deeper plot than book 1 i feel like, there was more substance to the world they were in and there was an actual antagonist determined to ruin them. it was slightly sadder too and i feel like there was more angst than in book 1.

it seems a lot better to be gay in mid 1800s england than to be lesbian, they have clubs and beth and gwen just happened to find eachother. and theres this huge community of gay & bi men but there just cant be something like that for the women - especially upper class - bc they arent allowed to go out by themselves

lord rat really thought he could blackmail them and announced his whole plan thats such a rookie mistake you've gotta keep it vague so they cant counter every single aspect of your plan

i loved the enemies to lovers and forced proximity/mutual being blackmailed so they have to work together to stop being blackmailed. and the found family i love found family so much

i really love seeing more of Cordelia & dashiel's relationship & Meredith & albie's relationship pls theyre all so cute together.

YES THE MARRIAGE IDEA PANNED OUT AND THEY GOT KIDS WITH THOSE SHARED ORPHANS. the idea of shared children is so goofy to me like are these children not gonna tell everybody about their living situation?

OMG WHEN CORDELIA GAVE BIRTH & DASHIEL WAS ALL 'idc if its not proper i need to be with her shes my wife" HES SO GOOD WITH HER I LOVE HIM

i had so much i wanted to say but its all out of my head rn maybe ill come back later and make this review longer or better.
