Plotline: After the suspicious death of her 2 college friends, Shay returns to the place where she died, and where they experienced a collective trauma that may be linked to her death in an effort to uncover the truth.

This was super interesting, but verrrrry heavy! Many trigger warnings needed for this one. I was hooked though - I loved the story being told partially through interview recordings and recollections of past events. A really good twist too. I'd have loved to have heard more of the back story of the "bad guy" in this.

Disturbingly recognizable. I felt a bit like I was waging psychological warfare on MYSELF by reading this story. The very center of this whole story is misogyny, not just as an everyday event in life or history, but how imbedded it is on all sides. This is told in two ways: 1. The big conspiracy that needs to be uncovered. This was well enough done, twisty but in a way I found mostly predictable and maybe a bit of a reach. 3.5 ⭐ for this part. 2. Shay's podcast confessions. This is where I felt the story truly shined, or rather, darkened. It was intimate and unsettling and fascinating to watch her not only uncover and confront the truth of this cult society, but the truth of herself as well. Solid 5 ⭐ for this part.

This is one of the best thrillers I’ve read. Perfectly paced, extremely dark, and so beautifully complex in its development.
Shay tells her story as we read the interview transcript of the podcast between her and Jamie. She bravely puts herself in harms way in order to achieve her bigger goal. Both Shay and Jamie were likeable characters. My favourite going about this thriller was how intelligent the author was in using the story of A Thousand and One Nights as both her inspiration and anti-inspiration. Just brilliant and clever and shocking to the core.

The second half of the book was so exhilarating, I could feel my heart racing whilst reading it. There’s only a few thrillers that have that effect, and this is definitely one of them.

There are MANY triggers in this book so please check them before reading.

Started out well enough, kinda lost track in the middle, but then rounded out pretty well. I support women’s rights, but I also support women’s wrongs!

This was a lot. Extremely graphic and triggering content but really well done. I think the author does an incredible job making the reader understand the MCs motivations. I was on the edge on my seat the whole time.
