This book teaches people how to emotionally manipulate and guilt trip others into joining their church or staying at their church.

Excellent primer on bringing out a "culture of evangelism" in one's church. And by evangelism, I don't necessarily mean a "soulwinning time." I plan on using this book as a study with some men in our church and believe it will be beneficial to all.

Here are some notable quotes:

"I would urge the church to aim to persuade, but to persuade without manipulation. I would encourage them not to exclude what is hard about the Christian life, however tempting that may be; not confuse human response for a move of the Spirit; and not to lie about results. 'And please,' I would say, 'be wary of calling people Christians without some evidence that they are truly converted followers.' "

"Many churches offer a costless, comfortable, and benefit-giving "gospel" that is found nowhere in the Scriptures."

"Jesus was engaging, but he never entertained; there is a huge difference, one that is lost on the modern church."

"True conversion is unique. It's born out of repentance and faith, and its fruit is a changed life."

"The fact is, most people come to faith through the influence of family members, small-group Bible studies, or a conversation with a friend after a church service: Christians intentionally talking about the gospel."

"The beautiful thing in a culture of evangelism, if we get it right, is that new believers have the zeal and the contacts that older Christians often lack. However, older Christians have the insight and knowledge that younger Christians need."

"There is nothing so discouraging as feeling that a church is more interested in manning the nursery than sharing the faith. I yearn to be in a church where even evangelistic attempts are championed. Even if an evangelistic effort doesn't lead to a gospel conversation, evangelistic failure is better than not trying evangelism at all."

"We can challenge people to come to faith, but there are no instructions in the New Testament for a sinner's prayer. We trust God to bring sinners to repentance. Our responsibility is to be faithful witnesses-together."

"The church is called to be a cross-centered, gospel-focused, God-glorifying community to the praise of Christ."

A very refreshing encouragement for personal evangelism. Stiles discusses why evangelism is important, and how it relates to the church, in a way that is practical and essential. He recognizes the need to work with a body of believers in evangelizing, whole also establishing that this begins with individuals caring for the people they come in contact with. Stiles openness and honesty were encouraging and convicting to see people in the way that Jesus would see them, and have the boldness to speak into their lives
