So che è un premio Pulitzer, e sicuramente son io a perdermi qualcosa di questo libro, visto anche che ne parlano tutti con toni entusiastici, ma mi ha lasciata indifferente e abbastanza annoiata.

The saying "there are two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle lies the truth" springs to mind here except in this book we actually get four different perspectives- a man's desire to control the narrative, control life, control his life makes him rewrite history for his benefit. A fictionalised account of the life of his wife and ultimately an outsiders perspective curious as to this man's posthumous desire to erase his wife's significance and agency but totally powerless to actually find the truth. I wanted to like this book but ultimately it was a bit too wordy at times (I don't mind using a dictionary and at times it added to the atmosphere being created in the book) and a little unfulfilled the ending was completely unsatisfying.

From the start, I was thoroughly confused but engrossed at the same time. I slowly began to piece things together over the course of this four-part book, with the final pieces snapping into place during the last section. I have never read a book quite like it, it was a fascinating read and one of the rare books that would make for a great re-read.

One of the best books I have read all year. My advice, if you DNF after 10% give it until at least the second section. There are four sections that tread over essentially the same story. It is layered upon each other. It is a reflection of how stories are altered depending on the author and the influence they impose on the world. Seemingly it is about finance, but honestly it is a reflection on who is able to tell history.
