I enjoyed this book although it wasn't quite as gripping as some of Gardners other books, though I can't put my finger on why. I found myself really disliking D.D Warren in this book and I'm not sure if it was because she was being hard on Danielle (The main female lead) and I liked Danielle as a character or whether it was a combination of factors.
While I liked the storyline and the different narrative voices (D.D, Danielle and Victoria) I found that the plot line was a bit haphazard. Some parts were a bit rushed while others seemed a bit dragged out such as the investigations and interviews. Still I read the novel in two sittings so it was enjoyable enough!

It might be my general brain fog, but I can't believe this took almost a month to complete. The last 100 pages were a thrill ride, but I must admit sadly, the beginning bits, and anything involving D.D. this time around were a REAL slog.

Admittedly, it's been awhile since I've dived into one of Gardner's works, but I don't remember D.D. being so unlikeable. "Interrogations" that bordered on harassment, and what seemed like a very out of place sex drive in the middle of a crime scene never seem to go punished or put into check, and I found it super off putting from the jump, wishing to spend more time with the other two protagonists this novel splits time between.

If you can get past what was for me an insufferable main character, this book is worth it for the thrills, but otherwise, I'd avoid.

Sometimes Gardner's mind is too dark. This book was too dark maybe because of all the behavior issues we dealt with with our son. It hurt my heart to read about Ozzie, Tika, and Victoria's son. But I loved DD's and Alex's interaction so I stuck with it.

It was a good read, but the ending was anti-climactic. I enjoyed the stories and how the characters intersected.
