Το ήξερες πως είπαν ότι ο μόνος τρόπος να επικρατήσει η ειρήνη ήταν να σιωπήσουν όλες τις αντιδραστικές φωνές;

Έπειτα από "ασφυκτική πίεση" από φίλες και το bookstagram, είπα να ενδώσω και να ξεκινήσω αυτή τη σειρά, με εγγυήσεις ότι ένας από τους κεντρικούς χαρακτήρες θα μου άρεσε πολύ. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι, πράγματι, ο Warner είναι το πιο ενδιαφέρον άτομο σε αυτές τις σελίδες, κι η νουβέλα που ακολουθεί το πρώτο βιβλίο είναι ζωτική στο να καταλάβεις γιατί.

Η Τζουλιέτ είναι μία κοπέλα που φυλακίστηκε κι απομονώθηκε λόγω μίας παράξενης ικανότητας που, για αυτούς που την παρέδωσαν, την αποτελεί ύψιστη απειλή για τους οικείους της. Έχει περάσει σχεδόν έναν χρόνο μέσα στο κελί της, μακριά από οποιαδήποτε έπαφη με ανθρώπους αλλά και τον έξω κόσμο. Από τα λεγόμενά της, σκέψεις που γράφει σε ένα μικρό σημειωματάριο που αποτελεί τη μοναδική πηγή λογικής, ο κόσμος έξω από τους τοίχους δεν είναι καλύτερος από τον εσωτερικό. Η κοινωνία κι η φύση έχουν έρθει σε σήψη, έρμαια της αλόγιστης κατάχρησης και κακομεταχείρισης της ανθρωπότητας. Η επονομαζόμενη "Νέα Διακυβέρνηση" ανέλαβε να σώσει την ανθρωπότητα από τον εαυτό της, αλλά γρήγορα καταλαβαίνουμε ότι η βιτρίνα αυτή δεν ήταν τίποτα άλλο από αφορμή για να κυβερνήσουν αυθαίρετα σε βάρος του κόσμου. Όλα μοιάζουν μάταια για την νεαρή κοπέλα, που μοιάζει να μετρά τα πάντα γύρω της, από τις μέρες μέχρι και τις τρίχες των μαλλιών της, για να επιβιώσει. Μέχρι που θα δεχτεί ένα νέο συγκρατούμενο. Ένα αγόρι που γνώριζε από παλιά, που θα την βοηθήσει να αποδράσει και να γνωρίσει καλύτερα τον εαυτό της, αλλά και την κατάσταση της χώρας της. Ο Άνταμ είναι το μόνο άτομο από το παρελθόν της που αποτέλεσε φωτεινό σημείο. Ωστόσο, δεν θα είναι ο μόνος που επιζητά την παρουσία της, αφού ο αδίστακτος επικεφαλής του τοπικού τομέα της Νέας Διακυβέρνησης, με το επώνυμο Ουώρνερ, την αναζητά διακαώς. Και δε θα σταματήσει μέχρι να την αποκτήσει.

Η αλήθεια είναι ότι αν διάβαζα αυτό το βιβλίο καμία δεκαριά χρόνια πριν, θα ήμουν πολύ πιο εκστασιασμένη. Πριν τέσσερεις διλογίες/τριλογίες/πενταλογίες από fantasy κι αρκετά enemies to lovers. Η εσωτερική φωνή της Τζουλιέτ, αν και κατανοητά μαύρη κι απελπισμένη, κουράζει μετά από ένα σημείο. Πολλές παρομοιώσεις, πολλά λόγια για να περιγράψει ένα απλό συναίσθημα. Και για όνομα, κοπέλα μου, καταλαβαίνω ότι είσαι απίστευτα στερημένη από άγγιγμα, αλλά δεν γίνεται να περιγράφεις κάθε επαφή ενός δαχτύλου στη μύτη σου ως οργασμικό γεγονός. Ο Άνταμ είναι ο κλασικός ήρωας, φωτεινός μες στο σκοτάδι, ουράνιο τόξο στη βροχή και τα λοιπά. Βαρετός, εκτός κι αν αλλάξει κάτι στην πορεία. Ο Ουώρνερ, από την άλλη, είναι φρέσκος αέρας. Είναι αμφίρροπος, μυστήριος, ενδιαφέρον. Θεότρελος, σίγουρα, και θεωρώ ότι η δική του σχέση με την Τζουλιέτ εξελίχθηκε αλλοπρόσαλλα γοργά, αλλά ελπίζω να εξηγηθούν τα κίνητρά του στο τέλος, γιατί η απότομη στροφή του δεν μου άρεσε ιδιαίτερα. Δεν υπάρχει λογικό build up. Πόσο γκόμενα είναι αυτή η κοπέλα, δηλαδή; Δεν είναι κι η Μπελούτσι.

Δύο αστέρια για τον Ουώρνερ, τα σύντομα κεφάλαια που δεν κουράζουν υπερβολικά και το δυστοπικό σύμπαν. Είναι κλασικό young adult βιβλίο, ένα συνονθύλευμα Hunger Games με Divergent, που ακόμα αφήνω να με πείσει αν όντως αξίζει. Διαβάστε τη νουβέλα του Ουώρνερ, το Destroy Me. Μου άρεσε αρκετά περισσότερο.

Υ.Γ. Είναι τρομακτικό το πώς κάποια πράγματα σε αυτό το σύμπαν θυμίζουν πολύ καταστάσεις καραντίνας. Τα κάνουμε όλα για το καλό σας, type of thing.

I finally gave in to the hype after a friend of mine read it and I'm still in doubt if the hype is deserved.
I really liked the portrayal of the chaos in Juliette's mind and the fast-paced style fit the book. 
But I couldn't yet bond with any of the characters expect
the ones at Omega Point. Adam is so toxic and Warner isn't (yet?) the one Book tok made him, although I know I should always be careful with. Booktok's portrayal of characters. 
Furthermore there wasn't much depth to what happens in those two weeks before Juliette planned to escape with Adam. What was she doing? More importantly, what was Warner doing with her? I would've liked to see some more developme
nt of the details.

I will continue the series in the hopes that the writing style will become better.

Bro… Sofia I can’t lie, I did enjoy this book. 

I feel like personally for me thought I needed the stakes to be even higher. But to be fair actually, the sakes where the highest I’ve ever seen them in a book soooo. ((Maybe I just wanted something extreme cause I was bored) gosh I’ve got so many TBR 😀)

I know who the main character will end up with because of BookTok. BUT OH MY DAYS HOW CAN SOMEONE FALL FOR A CRAZY, OBSESSIVE, PREDATOR OF A MAN. LIKE… I DONT THINK SHE CAN EVER FALL FOR HIM BECAUSE HES SO F*CKED UP. THERE MUST BE SOME MAGICAL WRITING IN THE NEXT BOOKS. CAUSE I CANNOT SEE HIS REDEMPTION ARC COMING ANY TIME SOON, AFTER HOW  HE’S BEHAVED 😤. Absolutely dISuSTANg 🤢. He’s so despicable and perverted. 🤮 I could punch him in the face🤬

Anyway I love Adam he’s so sweet. I love the sweet good guy. 🥰 we need more of them in books. SO ADAM YOU SLAYED ✨

I think I missed the time frame where I would have eaten this up.  There's a lot of world building that happens that is super intriguing but the romance element is juvenile (intentionally since it makes sense for the characters) but I cannot stop cringing.

I don't know if I will continue, I might read the Destroy Me novella since it's at the end of my copy from the library and see how I feel about it then.

In the beginning I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the writing style, as I expected it to be a ya novel but the writing felt quite experimental and fun. Reflective of the protagonists mind, as the author's note says in the beginning.
The plot started out interesting as well but then it got a bit slow and I started having issues with the main characters. The girl talks to about 5 characters in this book and 3/4 guys her age are constantly showing in some way how attractive they find her, how much they want her, despite her expressing that she doesn't want that. It also feels like it's used as a way to make the character seem more desirable. Plus, there's basically an assault theme in which a character is kissing her against her will and suddenly she's like "huh...but maybe i DO like him?" despite hating said character all throughout the book for obvious reasons...and it just felt highly uncomfortable and gross, esp bc it wasn't reevaluated at a later point.
Also I got really annoyed by how many times had to be mentioned that the main girl is so tiny and light and fragile while both of the male main characters were so tall and broad and somehow they carried her everywhere???
The plot gets a bit more interesting towards the end again. 
I might have gone into this book with the wrong expectations but I really thought I was gonna like it and was super disappointed, unfortunately.

adam >>> and kenji is the loml he's so funny fr. the character development is SO GOOD i was expecting it to be confusing w the whole stricken out text thing but it's surprisingly easy to follow. i lowkey dislike warner and i'm deffo team adam rn but the characterisation of warner is rlly good!! whenever warner calls juliette "love" omg... but the plot twists are so good like i was so certain smth was gonna happen BUT NO SMTH ELSE HAPPENS and then warner just exists and u cant even hate him bc he's kind of pretty. it's a really fast read tbh, i finished it in 2 days but it's a long series so i'll deffo j be continuously reading the series bc this book was SO GOOD and has me so intrigued. booktwt definitely didn't disappoint w hyping it up, it's really well written and the characters are my favs i adore all of them, especially kenji and adam. could have probs picked a better name than juliette for the main character let's b real but anyway we won't hold a grudge against that. but yeah it's a really good book and i'd recommend it<3 (also bonus points for the cover, it's ABSOLUTELY stunning)
