This series excels at dissecting the complex relationship between evidence and faith. Faced with the end of the world, we see how every character questions their roles, and works through what being a hero means to them. It has a lot of dark themes, and is definitely deep thought stirring, but it did get a bit repetitive by the end. With many of the characters having gone through a lot of character development in the earlier books, there wasn't much further for them to go. This made the focus of the few remaining characters' growth a little too in your face and kind of stale by the end. The characters are very lovable, but I kept hoping to have everyone in the same place again (I wanted my crew back together!). Definitely a good series, but I'm excited to see how Sanderson grows as an author in his later series of the Cosmere.

An incredibly bittersweet conclusion, but this is one of my favorites and will retain a fond spot on my internal Cosmere works tier list.

This is Sazed's and Spook's book, their opportunities to go through character arcs that were only teased in The Final Empire and are well concluded and well earned in this final novel in Mistborn era 1. You learn so much more about the world and magic system at large, more about the Shards that built everything, without it getting bogged down with exposition or more details than you need.

Stormlight might be (is) Sanderson's magnum opus, but that series owes a lot to how well Mistborn era 1 is plotted, structured, and executed. And these foundations set in this first grouping of Mistborn novels can help inform how some situations could/do play out in other works (looking at you, Dalinar).

I enjoyed the different perspectives we got in this book to see each characters arc be completed. The reveal of breadcrumbs planted from book 1 was exciting. The ending left me weeping, but filled with hope.
