I actually read this book on Audible. I really enjoyed the beginning of the story and it caught my attention right away... as the book went on however the leading character drove me crazy. I just want to walk up to her and shake her and tell her to snap out of it. She has some things she needs to work through and deal with. I loved Jackson. I can't decide if I am going to read/listen to the next book... I hear she is even worse in that book and I am not sure I can take that. However, this book left me with a cliffhanger so I am curious about what happens next.

It turned a bit too smutty for my own tastes.

Starting my Corinne Michaels binge - I think. So, I had to start here wither her first series. Ngl, military romances are my least favorite to read?? But from what I've seen is the military is subtle? Which is true. The hero, Jackson, is an ex Navy SEAL and has a business with the guys he worked with as well as a second business in cosmetics.

The heroine, Catherine, is a publicist and this is what brings the two together. Catherine also struggles with feeling like she is enough from men especially (HELLO DADDY ISSUES), because her father abandoned her and her mother when she was young. And then the book opens up with her finding her fiancé cheating on her.. which again made her feel like she wasn't enough.

She obviously doesn't want to get her heart broken anymore and so she tries to stay away from Jackson, but CHEMISTRY!!

This was a quick read and the romance was very quick. very into lust. But a good vibe overall.

The ending of this though?? STAB ME IN THE HEART.

I have to say this was a very good book but I didn’t love the love story of this couple as much because I felt like their relationship was kind of toxic and their communication was never great and it hardly developed however the cliff hanger at the end of this book was well worth the read and it was a great book to this series of books!

Back at the very beginning with Jackson and Catherine's story! I enjoyed this book and can sort of see the people they are in later series (just younger here). However, this made it clear to me that I am not here for duologies/duets. Ending on a cliff hanger, are you kidding?! So glad I'm reading these way after publication and the entire series is out because there are two more duets in this series.

Completed this as an audiobook and wow this was amazing. I was telling at Catherine and Jackson a little more than I’d like to admit but it was worth every second. This two showed each other what true love it and that they both deserve it.

DNF @ 58%. I have read so many positive reviews and I'm glad others enjoyed it but I couldn't connect with it. I didn't understand the immediate attraction, and I really didn't enjoy Catherine's weak self image.

I'm editing my review to add that I gave this one star because there are a few offensive comments regarding Iraq/Afghanistan (they are treated as interchangeable in this book). I do not believe the author intended to be offensive, but these were incredibly tactless and have not aged well at all (this book was originally written in 2014). I continued on with the series bc I was very curious about the plot, but I'd like to mention this here for anyone considering.
