I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Raven is a mercenary whose only goal is to build her rainy day funds. She's the kind who is so professional she won't ask too much questions - yep, even if her employer's name - as long as you pay her. Everyone says she does great at her job... even when she doesn't.

She was hired by a group of witches as a bodyguard but when an attack happens, she freezes. She then teams up with hot vampire guy she knows from somewhere and they make lots of awkward small talk transitioning to weird ranting about social status to even weirder friendly flirting.

Despite being a book about magic users, the system of magic is not explained. What else was not explained? Well, a loooot considering this is the first book of in its series. If the objective is to behold up suspense or mystery, well, my curiosity was not teased at all.

Their adversaries are easily put down and of course, Raven is praised for her quick action. Too quick if you ask me.

Apart from that, descriptions are repetitive and cliche. The progression of events especially the action scenes were so
confusing that I had to reread a couple of times to understand who got whom.
