This book made me legit angry in the worst way possible. I don’t know how it ended up with 4 stars on here. Such immature writing and a terrible thriller piece, if I didn’t know any better I would say it was written by a 16 year old on wattpad. To all the people who think this is genuinely good thriller please read an actual thriller like Rebecca or anything by Shirley Jackson or Riley Sager. Or anything would be better than this honestly. (Gave it a .5 bc I got at least one emotion from reading this)

I like psychological thrillers (my favorite genre), but this was a lot, even for me. This book is very crass, and after thumbing through it there are a ton of incredibly graphic sex scenes, which to me was offputting. It didn't seem like they did anything for the story, but were just there for shock value? Not only that, none of the characters are likeable at all. The main character is whiney and has no moral compass, although she likes to make it seem like she tries to do the right thing... Idk about that. The only thing I liked about this book was that the writing was pretty good. Id read one of her romance books, but probably not another psychological thriller like this.

i think the plot was there for sure but i’m not a huge fan of Colleen Hoover’s writing style.. so it ended up being a turn off for me. still worth a read but definitely a little hard to sit through.

<<SPOILER>>
i do kind of hate the ending where Lowen finds the letter that Verity wrote. i feel parts of the plot were soooo easy to guess where others were out of left field. i enjoyed the idea of Verity being able to make everyone question if she truly was a bad person or not, however i feel there wasn’t much of a mystery factor until the end of the book - which just made it feel sloppy in my opinion. i see the plot, though i wish it was laid out differently.

Holy shit this book is messed up. Some of the scenes and descriptions are really hard to read. I didn’t like the ending but I guess that’s to be expected with a book like this. Also, this was my first Colleen Hoover (I know) and I’ll definitely read others but I am under the impression this book is very different than her usual stories.
