These girls' history and story were fascinating and well worth the read. However, the writing style and the organization was very disjointed and made it difficult to follow and connect to the girls. Eventually, I stopped trying to keep track of the people and locations and just absorbed the overall experiences these women (and men) went through. So, pros-- the story and history; cons-- the writing style and organization. But it contained a lot of information I was unaware of, and I'm glad I read it.

This was the hardest thing I've ever read. It was heavily researched. While long and hard to get through, it was because of the horror and disturbing content instead of any writing issues. 

I started with the audiobook, as I often do for nonfiction. I had to stop after a while because listening to it was so rough. I definitely recommend this to anyone who'd like to know more about WWII, and/or women during wartime, as long as you can handle the grief and the violence.

this book was very good but very upsetting. i enjoyed it. i disagreed with some of her grammatical choices, and i wish there’d been a glossary

Thoughtfully and thoroughly researched. It is a harrowing but inspiring account of women as heroes, leaders and fighters during WW2 Poland.

This book is not for the faint-hearted. It describes the realities of wartime life for Jewish citizens in Nazi occupied Poland. There are many descriptions of the kind of cruelty and torture the Nazis inflicted on the Jewish population. I encourage you to read/listen to the book, because it’s important to hear these women’s stories. But go into it with clear expectations. It is not pretty or easy to hear.

Well researched. This is a hard read because of the brutality, but the story of these female resistance fighters is so incredible.

These are the stories of Jewish women resistance fighters during WWII who organized uprisings and fought against the Nazis, bombed trains, and so much more. I kept expecting this to end, thinking things like, "these women have already been through so much," and, "there's no way they can pull this off," but I was wrong. I found myself continually surprised, shocked, devastated, and in awe of their chutzpah, even *after* the war had ended. I can think of no better read than this during Women's History Month. Judy Batalion's research and writing are incredible. This is a long one and it will break your heart, but it is so worth your time.
