Wow this book made me feel a lot of things. I get anxious when people in books are anxious and usually put them down, but I kept going and it was so sweet and worth it. The writing made me feel like I was actually in her head which was wonderful.

I don't really know what to say about this book, other than that I really, truly enjoyed it. A strange and interesting writing style that beautifully complemented the confessional, stream-of-consciousness subject matter. Highly recommended.

i enjoy the stream of consciousness style of writing here. probably because it feels a lot like my own brain.

an enjoyable story about complicated childhood
and relationship with your parents, how that warps your ideas of love and life, and how to find your own way.

weike wang is a clever writer. her nameless main character is ambivalent and detached, yet the story is full of emotion and connection. wang's writing style is spare -- seemingly straightforward and blunt -- yet there is much just below the surface. i would have liked a wee bit more depth from some of the supporting characters, like the boyfriend, and the best friend. they were great props for the main character, yet interesting in their own right. i was also a bit 'meh' with the ending.

i love Wang’s writing style. she writes in the same way that i process thoughts in my head. her experience as a chinese american in the U.S. felt very relatable. i loved reading about how she navigated her relationships and her PhD.

Not a fan of the style, almost reads like a collection of microblogs. Sometimes funny, but hard to follow any story and I didn’t particularly care for the main character.
