I read this with my daughter. So interesting to reread as an adult. The Ingalls’ move into “Indian” territory. They just drive their wagon up to an empty field and build a house. How unreal. Ma is terrified of the Indians but Pa says they are not hurting anyone. He seems to have some respect for the fact that they were there first. There is a lot of talk about how the government will eventually move the Indians farther west and they just need to wait them out.

Overall its well written and I had some good conversations with my daughter, especially since she has started learning more about indigenous people in school.

Also, I’m not sure why good reads says this is the third book in the series. It’s the second. The third one is about Laura’s future husband so I mean I guess it doesn’t matter if you read that one before this one but still.

Didn't realise this was a children's book till I started reading it but still enjoyed it. I don't know if that tells you more about the writing (a lot on carpentry) or my mental capacity...

I enjoyed sharing this book I loved as a child with my own kids. This provoked a lot of excellent conversations about Native American history and racism. Cherry Jones’ audio narration was excellent.
