A Family Reunion Like No Other

Ernie Cunningham writes books about how to write crime novels. When he gets an email from his aunt saying he must attend a family reunion at a remote sky resort, he is somewhat nervous because, as the tite suggests, everyone in the Cunninghams are no ordinary family.

Soon after arrival, the resort is cut off to vehicles in a heavy snow storm. Ernie 's worst fears begin materialise when a body is found ìn the snow the day after and skills of his day job are called in to action.

This isn't Cosy Crime by any means, it is very dark and twisted, but I enjoyed it and will probably read the next one in the series.

At the end of the book, the author says he thinks that Australia is going through a Golden Age of crime fiction. This is not my preferred genre, so I haven't read enough of them to compare. What I can say is that in the past couple of years I've developed the opinion that Australia is going through a Golden Age of comedians. When I read on the back flap that the book was written by an award-winning stand-up comedian and author, I had high hopes. And indeed, it was funny and well-written.

The narrator was very likeable and engaging. As someone who self-publishes how-to books on how to write mysteries, he explains a lot of the tropes, which will amuse fans of this genre, while it can both amuse and inform readers like me who haven't read a lot of crime or mystery fiction.
