Why did I wait so long to read this? Surprisingly so cozy- one of my comfort reads now. So happy I have the arc of the sequel because going to binge this now!

“If I frightened my cat as I had Shadow, she’d ignore me for days, or possibly put a curse on me, but then cats have self-respect.”
Possibly, my favorite quote from the entire book. I really enjoyed this story. It has the feel of Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, and the MCs have a lot of JudeCardan vibes going on. I adored their interactions! Definitely recommend if you like stories about The Folk/Faerie.

"One doesn’t need magic if one knows enough stories."
✨️ Fae
✨️ Trapped Fae King
✨️ Light Romance
✨️ Folklore/Folk Tales
✨️ Stubborn FMC
✨️ Cozy
✨️ Low Stakes
✨️ Opposites Attract
✨️ Grumpy x Sunshine
This book follows Emily Wilde, a professor at Cambridge University who spends all her time researching the Fae and folk lore associated with various places around the world, the last place she visits before she can publish her encyclopaedia of faeries is a remote village in the Scandinavian country of Ljosland.
I loved the character development from this cold, stand-offish professor to someone who goes above and beyond to save the villagers, something she has never done at a research location before.
Brambleby was fun, chaotic, and had me kicking my feet towards the end. He's resourceful, and the banter is adorable.
"Get inside! You're bleeding!"
"I will not bleed any less indoors, you utter madwoman."
This book is cozy and light-hearted. It's low stakes and a perfect winter read. I loved it and cannot wait to begin book 2.

I went into this expecting a fast-paced winter fantasy but instead I got a slow, homey, snowy fairy novel.
I’m not mad about it, it just wasn’t what I expected.
I also thought Bambleby was in his 50s until they explicitly said his age…. That could have something to do with my lack of interest in the characters and their adventure in the first 100 pages lol

I loved this book a lot. I have never had to google so many words but I love how she finds these ways to describe things. I love Emily & Wendell and the family that they find in the villagers. a good read, very cute

The main character is a caricature of what English majors think female scientists are like.
