Don't take this 5-star rating to mean that this is one of the best books I've read, because it's not. It's certainly one I've enjoyed immensely, though. As the third book in a series (trilogy perhaps, though I hope there will be more) it made good on the promises and backstories which had been hinted at in the previous instalments. I like Brookmyre's snappy dialogues, his humour and his twist-and-action-packed storylines. I also really liked the all the characters in the series, but specially Jasmine, who was refreshingly different from the stereotypically hard-boiled protagonists of the genre. The narration of the audiobook is worth mentioning too - Sarah Barron did a stellar job and totally amplified my enjoyment of the story.

An excellent end to the series. The character development is fantastic and there are a lot of loose ends nicely tied up.

This one was a bit too dark and gritty for me in places but the storytelling is still top notch.

This is apparently the third book in the Jasmine Sharp / Catherine McLeod series. I've not read the precious two, but I have read just about everything else Mr Brookmyre has written.

I expected this book to be funny. It wasn't. It's not the worse for it, by any means; it just wasn't quite what I was expecting.

It was also significantly less offensive than any of Mr Brookmyre's previous works. That too was unexpected.

It was completely unlike his previous works, and yet completely in keeping with them.
