Komi Can't Communicate continues to be an endearing look at a girl's attempts to make friends while overcoming her fear of communication. This volume delves further into some of the surrounding characters at Komi's school, some that I like and some that I find a bit annoying. Knowing that Komi is seeking to make 100 friends, I am sure there will be a great variety of people that she gets to know. Throughout it all, Komi continues to be an endearing presence and it's great to see how her friendship with Tadano continues to deepen.

Komi Can't Communicate follows Tadano who accidentally becomes friends with the most popular girl in school Komi. The problem is that she has severe social anxiety and can't speak a word without shaking and getting nervous. Tadano decides to help Komi with her goal which is to make 100 friends.
I think this manga is so cute! I really love seeing Komi learning to open up to others and slowly start to come out of her shell. I think she is such a sweet character and one you want to protect at all cost. I love seeing her friends try so hard to help her out and they never treat her differently due to her social anxiety. They clearly care about her so much and I think it's so sweet seeing this kind of friendship developing.
I am going to put spoiler tags on the next bit as I don't want to spoil too much of this volume for anyone.
The girl who wants to be friends with Komi so bad that she kidnaps someone needs some serious help. And the being so obsessed with her that she has pictures all over her wall? She's not my favorite character and that part made me a little uncomfortable. I'm glad Tadano was okay.

If you want a very sweet and cute manga about a girl with social anxiety trying to learn to make friends, I would highly recommend this series.

I picked this up as part of my continuation of this manga series.
"Komi Can't Communicate, Vol. 2" is the continuation of Komi's story. Komi is on a mission to make 100 friends, unfortunately, she struggles to communicate with people. With the help of Tadano, Komi is slowly meeting more of her peers.
I did enjoy this installment a little bit more than volume one, but this manga series is still very over the top and a lot to take in. It is a very dramatized story, which I think is something very common in Japanese culture, but it is a lot to take in if you are not accustomed to it.
I did really appreciate that in this installment I felt like people were taking Komi's feelings into consideration more than in the previous. Tadano and Najimi still push Komi and try to break her out of her shell, but I think they do a better job of helping her and not just shoving her into potentially terrifying and overwhelming situations.
There is a plotline in which Tadano gets kidnapped by a new potential "friend" character. This character is more like a stalker and is entirely infatuated with Komi, and that portion of the story was a little off the rails. It was definitely entertaining in its own right, but it felt kind of out of left field.
I am still not 100% invested in this series, but I am more curious, and I will be picking up the next installment soon.

Highlights

Yadano Makeru trying to beat Komi at the physical health examination at school was hilarious 😂

➽ I really related to the way Komi is nervous about Najimi and Tadano visiting her house for the first time, as she never brought anyone over before!

Yamai is introduced and that girl has issues! She's one of the prettiest, most popular girls and has an intense crush on Komi that borders on obsessive. At times this is a bit too creepy tbh, poor Komi!

➽ I loved them visiting the Ramen shop and Agari being a huge foodie!

➽ It was so funny learning what Tadano was like in junior high and how he tried too hard to be an extraordinary person ... but promptly failed 😂

➽ The shopping trip with Komi was also fun, especially as they held a competition on who could find her the best outfit ... it turned out to be Tadano 😉

The quest continues! It was nice to meet some new characters, though I have a feeling they’ll start to get difficult to keep track of. Why does the only gay character have to be portrayed so negatively?? Komi’s mom is such a babeee. I particularly loved Communications 22: Home Visit, 29: Jokes, 32: Tadano in Junior High, and 33: Shopping.
