I liked this but didn't love it ... I'm not sure quite what was missing for me. I think I would have liked the first half to be tighter and the threads in the second half to be filled out more. There are some threads that are never really resolved or fully developed but they are interesting so I would have liked more of them and less initial set up.

a sweet book, a little too sweet for my current tastes, however.
window moves into her sisters penthouse, which helps both since the penthouse sister's husband is a lout and in prison. their relationship and convalescence from loss is endearing and gentle.
my mood for blood did not fit this story, so I could not in all honesty read it thoroughly. skimmed and thought of all my elderly relatives who might like it.

Another amusing and entertaining Elinor Lipman book. Again some intricate, and quirky family relationships, too complicated to go into here. But I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved it. But then I would read pretty much anything at all if it were written by Elinor Lipman. She is one of my very favourite authors. In the hands of another writer, these characters could have been caricatures, but she makes them human and believable--even if their circumstances are quite fanciful.
This isn't a book that will tax your brain, but it is thoroughly enjoyable; I spent the book rooting for (most of) the characters, particularly the protagonist. Yes, she is flawed--all the characters are in some mild way--but she's likable and I could relate to her even though she exasperated me at times.
Totally delightful. I wish I hadn't finished it so quickly.
